My Little paper Boat

Ron Kinard © 2001

lightening bolts flashing
thunder rolling in the distance
rain, pouring down
depressing gray skies
filling the horizon
finally
the day has come

I've waited for a day like this
for so long
patiently, biding my time

as the rain
rolls down the windows
tears
run down my cheeks
I read your letter
one last time
the letters become blurred as
the tears stain the paper

carefully
I start folding the note
each crease selectively made
each fold exactly where
it was suppose to be

slowly
I fold this note
making a little paper boat
writing "I love you" on the sail
sealing it with wax
I depart

the rain slacks, but
the water still flows
in the gutter
I place the boat to my lips, kissing it
as if it were you
one final farewell before turning it loose
(I'm over you now)
saying one last good-bye to you, and
my little paper boat
as it disappears, down the drain

Losing someone you love truely complicates life!
